The Advisory Board for Redundant Churches

Scope of website

The Board was established in 1969 under the Pastoral Measure 1968, as the independent statutory advisor to the Church Commissioners on churches proposed for redundancy and former Anglican churches subject to the Pastoral Measure.

Under Section 54 (4) of the Dioceses Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007 the Advisory Board ceased to exist on 10 June 2008, its functions and duties having been transferred to the Statutory Advisory Committee of the new Church Buildings Council.

At its final meeting on 29 May 2008, the Advisory Board decided to arrange for this website to be maintained until 31 March 2009 as a resource of public information about its work during its last few years. Further information can be obtained from the Board's Secretary, Dr Jeffrey West, who has been transferred under the new arrangements, at jeffrey.west@c-of-e.org.uk.

The two main items accessible through this web-site are:

The final version of the Advisory Board's Criteria for assessing heritage values and the scope for change in closed Anglican churches, together with the Public Consultation Report on the publication consultation draft issued for comment in January 2008.

The Annual Reports for 2006–2008.
