The website was launched in August 2006 to support community archives in the UK. It was set up by the Community Archive Development Group, a national group which brings together organisations concerned with Community Archives, and provides a forum for the regular exchange of views and information.

The website aims to develop a comprehensive directory of community archives in the UK. It also provides archives with a platform to publicise their work and to share experiences and resources.

The site is organised in the following sections:

• Directory: the directory organises community archives by region and by interest groups.

• Resources: information, advice and links useful to community archives.

• What's on: details of events that are taking place which are relevant to community archives, along with news, press releases and details of job
  openings.

• Features: the chance for archives to showcase particular items in their collections or to describe their projects for example.
