THE FARNBOROUGH PARK PROJECT
The park associated with Farnborough Hall in Warwickshire is part of a remarkable environment centred on a number of garden and landscape features ranging from the medieval to the early nineteenth century and currently in the care of the National Trust. As part of a programme of post-graduate study with the University of Leicester and with the support of the National Trust a project has been set up to record and analyse a number of features in the landscape covering a variety of periods but with a particular focus on the use and management of water.

We are currently re-excavating the foundations of an eighteenth century summerhouse in order to fully plan and record the remains. We are also investigating the cascade which is said to incorporate the remains of an earlier water mill and some curious earthworks in the woods above Sourland Pool. This work builds on the completed surveys of the fields south of the church which contain the remains of the medieval village and an investigation of the early nineteenth century bridge on the Banbury Road.
