This is an old revision of GPSArchaeologicalMappingUsingNavigationGradeInstruments from 2011-03-29 21:56:21.SWAAG (Swaledale and Arkengarthdale Archaeology Group)∞ was formed in the summer of 2009. One of our first tasks was to develop a methodology for generating publication grade archaeological survey maps.
A successful technique was developed using for the most part freeware downloaded
from the Internet. The one exception being the purchase of Serif Draw Plus graphics software. An older version of which (X3), was purchased for about £20.
The method has been published on our SWAAG website and used to produce all
the new maps in our first report which can be read here.∞
The method has been demonstrated at a recent CBA Yorkshire workshop, and is
fully documented here.∞
A sample map can be download as a pdf document by clicking here∞. It will take 10-30 seconds to load depending on your Broadband speed.
SWAAG can be contacted using the contact form on the website or by clicking here.∞
If you find this methodology of use then please make reference to SWAAG in your publication.
Our main project is recording the vast archaeological wealth contained in and around these two dales, including recording veteran trees and hedgerows.
Finally since the beginning of 2011 SWAAG has been recording its archaeological and Historic Environmental Records in an on-line database that can be searched by a number of techniques. Please take a few minutes to take a look. The Search Page can be found here.∞ If you have any further information about any of our records then please submit it for inclusion in our database. All our records are passed on to the Yorkshire Dale National Park Authority.
