Heritage Toolkit for Communities

These pages were created by Rosie Crook of Working Heritage∞, and derive from a workshop entitled 'Whose Heritage is it Anyway?', run by the CBA and English Heritage in Castleford in 2005. The idea of the workshop was to bring together professionals and individuals active in local heritage and archaeology groups to talk together and learn from each other. The original conference booklet can be downloaded here∞ (PDF 360KB).

This toolkit is the outcome of those two days. It is meant to be a practical guide and a resource to help you explore a deeper engagement with your local heritage, whether that engagement is through professional or voluntary activity.

It should be remembered that the local Historic Environment Record (HER) Officer or Archaeological Service in your area help and advise, but perhaps more importantly if you report the results of archaeological projects work to your local HER you will be making sure that what you find out is recorded and not just forgotten about, which will really help increase the understanding of your area.
