The CBA's Community Archaeology Resource

I'm the Community Archaeology Support Officer for the CBA. I've always been passionate about increasing public engagement with archaeology, and fascinated by the very personal meanings that people attach to their local heritage and environment. So, this is pretty much my dream job! My work with the CBA is at an early stage right now, but I shall be carrying out research over the next few months into the scale and nature of voluntary and community involvement in archaeological heritage. Results of the research will include a re-vamp of CAF, and the development of a series of training programmes for those wishing to engage more closely with archaeology. Please contact me - caf@britarch.ac.uk - if you have any suggestions or ideas to help with this! You can also follow my work, research and travels on my blog

Before joining the CBA, I worked in the heritage sector in various roles, including costumed interpreter at the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham, Peak Seasonal Heritage Ranger at Creswell Crags in Derbyshire, and Education Officer - Lifelong Learning at Bede's World in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear. I have also worked a Research Assistant for the School of Historical Studies at Newcastle University, and lectured at both Newcastle and Northumbria Universities.

I'm about to leave university life for the first time in what feels like ages by working to submit my Doctoral thesis on the relationships between archaeologists and metal detector users in England and Wales. I researched this on a part-time basis at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies (ICCHS), also part of Newcastle University. So, I am really looking forward to having my evenings back!
