The Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) was established in 1895. It is a voluntary, nongovernmental organization with an increase of than 13,000 certified extra, schools, schools, middle and primary schools. The Council on Accreditation and School Improvements (CASI) is a department of SACS and accredits pre-kindergarten, K-12 and vocational schools in 11 southern states, as well as other countries. In the spring of 2006, an agreement was signed by the Virginia schools with SACS CASI. Under this agreement, Virginia schools departments will be encouraged to pursue certification with the Council. The deal complements Virginia schools already demanding certification requirements and can build strong foundations for continued growth in learning and achievement within each school section and each school. Just Virginia schools departments may be accredited by SACS CASI. To quality, all schools within a department also must be fully accredited under the Commonwealths Standards of Learning accountability system. This encourages and rewards the utilization of guidelines at all levels of the college section. Additionally, a steering committee will coordinate the: Team accrediting process, Technical and education support, Reputation for achieving accreditation, and Can promote all Virginia schools departments to be involved in the program. Although the system is voluntary for the college sections, the agreement is viewed by the Virginia schools as an incentive for its schools to accelerate their recent efforts to boost training and raise scholastic achievement. The SACS CASI certification approach analyzes the Virginia schools guidelines, methods and problems with SACS CASIs expectations. They look at a number of different most readily useful practice areas, such as for instance responsibility, instruction, government, management, planning and sustained progress. Certified Virginia schools demonstrate their commitment to guidelines, quality instruction, and increased educational achievement. It's ways to apply a systematic approach to these goals at all levels within the college divisions. An extra advantage is always to the local and state Virginia schools leaders, who share these promising recommendations with other approved schools throughout the nation. During the time of this writing, equally Hanover and Roanoke County school departments have now been accredited by SACS CASI. Seventeen other Virginia schools departments are pursuing accreditation. With support from the Virginia schools and both SACS CASI, we should see a great many other school departments with accreditation from the Council next couple of years.
