CBA Regional Groups Calendar

Don’t forget the annual Festival of British Archaeology 14.7.12–29.7.12, showcasing the very best of British archaeology, by presenting hundreds of special events organised and held by museums, local societies, national and countryside parks, universities, and heritage organisations across the UK. With opportunities for the whole family to learn about their local heritage, to see archaeology in action, and to get involved. CBA and YAC members receive the annual booklet free with their June magazines. Registration for organisers open from early 2012.

CBA Yorkshire symposium and AGM 4.2.12

Held at York St John’s University. Further details and a booking form will be sent out to members of the group in early January and details will then be on the website.

Spring business meeting 10.3.12

Industrial Archaeology Day 24.3.12

CBA East Midlands conference and AGM, held at Masson Mill, Matlock, Derbyshire. Prof Marylin Palmer and Dr Barry Trinder (author of The Making of the Industrial Landscape) are among the speakers. The day includes a tour of the Arkwright Textile Museum. See also CBA Practical Handbook.

April 2012

Community archaeology 21.4.12

Spring conference of CBA South Midlands, held at St Edburg’s Church Hall, Bicester on the theme of community archaeology. See CBA SM website for latest.

May 2012

CBA East 12.5.12

AGM held about midday at Verulamium Museum, St Albans. Refreshments served from 10.30am, with talks on Iron Age and Roman Hertfordshire from 11am. Afternoon tour of the Roman town or Medieval town and Abbey. Further details to follow.

Archaeology Scotland 18.5.12–21.5.12

Popular residential summer school, based in Dumfries with the usual guided excursions of sites from all periods on the Saturday and Sunday, evening lectures and time to socialise. Open to all, but booking forms will be sent out to members in February – join AS now. Contact Eila MacQueen, Director.

Archaeological Research in Progress 26.5.12

ARP 2012 national conference held at MacRobert Building, University of Aberdeen, and examining recent ongoing archaeological projects with a focus on Aberdeenshire, Moray and Angus. Contact Archaeology Scotland for information and to book.
