CBA Weekend Event

Each year the CBA holds a Weekend Event which in the past has coincided with our Annual General Meeting. The Weekend consists of a series of visits, lectures and activities focusing on a particular region of the UK. In previous years we have based the Weekend in Belfast, Liverpool, Leicester, Salisbury, York, London and Shropshire. Each Weekend draws together CBA members, trustees, staff and others, alongside experts on the archaeology of the region, and starts with the Beatrice de Cardi Lecture.

CBA Shropshire Weekend 2009

Friday 16th - Sunday 18th October 2009’s weekend event and CBA AGM took place in Shropshire. Based in Shrewsbury, we visited the WHS of Ironbridge Gorge, the Roman City of Wroxeter and the National Trust’s Attingham Park.

The Beatrice de Cardi lecture was given by Professor Marilyn Palmer of the University of Leicester, who cast a reflective eye over the history of industrial archaeology, as we celebrated 50 years of the creation of industrial archaeology as a discipline. Read more about the lecture.
