Welcome to CBA London

The London Regional Group of the CBA was set up in Spring 2008 in order to act as point of reference for all Londoners interested in the past. It also seeks to be a robust  advocate for archaeology within London’s unique political apparatus. The CBA now has a way for archaeology to inform and enrich the political and cultural life of Londoners in the bustling multicultural capital city. Being the location of large institutions like the British Museum, being at the centre of massive and continuous development, and administrations like the London Assembly and the Mayor each, in their own way, require a tailored and energetic response from archaeologists in the capital.

CBA London’s Board of Trustees draws from new and existing expertise from the archaeological sector in the city. The CBA is best placed to be the one organisation to can act as a hub for the likes of the Society of Antiquaries, the Museum of London, esteemed local societies like London and Middlesex Archaeological Society and many others.

In time, CBA London hopes to host lectures and seminars, assist public participation in excavation and conservation as well as supporting various other innovative ways of raising the profile of archaeology in the city. A city of 7.5m people with an internationally significant heritage now has its own CBA regional group. Only the future will tell whether we can do justice to this past.
