Meetings and Events
The Group holds two meetings each year, in the Spring and Autumn.
Our Spring meetings are hosted by one or more of the local societies in
the region and are an opportunity to hear about work in their area and
visit a nearby site of historical interest.
Recent Spring meetings have been held at Mellor, the site of
award-winning excavations of its Iron Age hillfort, Eccleston, near the
Roman and Dark Age site of Heronbridge, south of Chester, and at
Timperley, near Altrincham, the site of a medieval moated hall.
Our AGM is combined with the Spring meeting. This is your chance to
hear what your committee has done over the past year, express your
views and take part in electing a new committee.
Our Autumn conference is devoted to an archaeological theme relevant to
our region. Speakers may be members of the Group or specialists in the
topic.
Recent themes have been the study of wood from excavations, the
archaeology of slavery and the economy of Roman north west England.
Save the date!
Our conference on 'The Hillforts of Cheshire' was highly successful and enjoyed by all present, not least for the invigorating visit to Eddisbury Hillfort. Our Autumn Conference, to be held jointly with CBA North, will take place on 29 October at Kendal.
Autumn Conference
