Activities
|
The activities of the Society fall chiefly into three parts
- Casework: trying to help trustees, planning authorities, and owners to secure the future of specific chapels. Enquiries should initially be made to the Hon Secretary. 47 Salisbury Drive, Midway, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE11 7LD e-mail
- Publications: in our Newsletter and occasional publications. Manuscripts and material for publication should be submitted to the Honorary Editor, 21 Melrose Avenue, Reading, RG6 7BN e-mail
- Visits to chapels and other places of interest: Our current programme is shown below. The Hon Visits Secretary can be contacted at 21 Laughton Road, Horsham, W.Sussex, RH12 4EJ e-mail
The Society welcomes enquiries, but researchers should note that it does not maintain any library or archive. They will normally get help or information most readily through the resources of their County Record Office or Archives, or Local Studies Libraries, or by approaching the Conservation Officer in their local authority's Planning Department. The Society does not have the resources to make conservation grants.

| The Chapels Society arranges conferences and day visits for its members, at a small charge. Visits are held in the spring and autumn, and an Annual Meeting, in conjunction with a lecture and/or visit, takes place in the summer. Themed study days have included meetings in Bedford and Northampton, concentrating on Bunyan and Doddridge, and on the Synagogues and "Strangers' churches" in London. Day visits are made to important centres of Nonconformity. Occasional residential week-end conferences and visits to churches in Europe have also been offered to members.
