Introducing PPS 5: Planning and the historic environment

A CBA workshop to introduce the new planning policy statement and accompanying guidance for CBA Agents and historic building volunteers was organised by the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society at the Museum of London. Understanding historic buildings

This workshop provided an introduction to historic buildings to enable a greater understanding of their form, fabric and their change over time. The morning session, led by Adam Menuge and Lynne Walker, gave information and advice, which was put into practice during the afternoon session when delegates took part in a visual survey of local historic buildings. Planning and the historic environment, Town Hall, Oxford
For all those with an interest in the historic environment, the focus of this workshop was on getting to grips with the planning system. It provided an introduction to the way local and regional planning works and discussed how groups and individuals could have a more effective voice in local planning issues. It included an introduction to local development frameworks and the latest information on heritage protection reform. Discussion during the day focused on how local groups could take part in shaping local initiatives and policy, and make their voice heard effectively. Groups Update 2008
Groups’ Update 2008 (PDF 63KB)
Twenty-eight volunteers attended two workshops on 19 April (York) and 7 June (London) 2008 to discuss issues relating to governance, participation and communication. The CBA secretariat and three Regional Groups provided speakers and discussion topics included finance and funding, charity and legal issues, organising conferences, and producing newsletters. Volunteers who took part said they enjoyed the friendly informal atmosphere of the workshop, appreciating the opportunities to discuss questions as they arose and the chance to meet others.
