Lancaster Roman Walk 18th May 2003

On Sunday 18th May, 2003 members of the Society were treated to a guided tour of Roman Lancaster, led by David Shotter and Rachel Newman.  David explained the layout of the successive  forts on Castle Hill while Rachel concentrated on the civil settlement which grew up to the east of the fort.

David tells us what can be seen on the Vicarage Fields.	We examine the rather sad-looking remains of the bath house.

On the site of the east gate of the fort, by the Judges' Lodgings, Rachel takes over the tour.

Rachel tells us about some of the archaeological discoveries which have been made on Church Street.
