CBA Community Archaeology Research Reaches Next Stage

More than 400 responses have been received from a wide variety of groups, and a phase of visits all over the UK now begins.

The questionnaire survey stage of the community archaeology research project is close to completion, pending responses from some groups that have asked for extra time to respond. With more than 400 responses already received from all over the UK, the results promise to be an informative and extremely useful representation of the views, activities and needs of groups engaging in archaeology through a variety of different voluntary means.

Suzie Thomas, the Community Archaeology Support Officer said:

I am absolutely delighted with the response so far. I have worked hard with colleagues here at the CBA and also in other organisations to make sure that as many groups as possible have been contacted about this questionnaire. That said, if people still wish to respond, it is not too late to do so. I would advise anyone interested in responding or contributing to this research, either through the survey or more informally, to get in touch with me.

The survey forms part of the wider research project looking into community archaeology in the UK, which also includes discussions and interviews with both participants in and facilitators of community archaeology projects and other voluntary activities. These research visits and discussions will continue throughout June and July, and can be followed through Suzie’s research blog. The resultant report and the other project outcomes, including the enhancement of the award-winning Community Archaeology Forum, will be available from Autumn this year onwards.
