Hidden Histories series begins tonight on BBC4

Return of the highly popular series looking at hidden histories through the work of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW).

Narrated by Huw Edwards for BBC Cymru Wales fom Tues 26 Jan at 7.30pm. Subsequent transmission times may vary, so please check schedules.

Announced programmes include:

  • How the key to Stonehenge lies in the Preseli Hills, how the Blitz changed Swansea, and investigating the highest house in Wales.
  • Laser scanning brings a new dimension to the vanishing slate heritage, rediscovering medieval coastal fish traps, and the architect who developed a North Wales style.
  • Rediscovering a Roman villa in mid Wales, revealing hidden wonders of St David’s Cathedral, and rescuing a C20th sculpture.
  • The Monmouthshire farmhouse that time forgot, World War I training trenches near Tenby, and on Anglesey helping to preserve the world’s biggest copper mine.
  • An Elizabethan plan to make Denbigh capital of north Wales, Iron Age people living on the edge, and how medieval monks created a sheep-farming multi-national.
