Caring for Ancient Church Sites – York day school
The CBA and the Church Buildings Council (CBC) are holding a joint event to encourage and support local stewardship of ancient church sites and ruins.
The event, Caring for ancient church sites: Local stewardship of historic sites and ruins will be held at St William’s College, York on Thursday 7 October. The day will be of interest to diocesan officers and parishes, to heritage and wildlife trusts, local archaeological and amenity groups and to heritage professionals managing such sites.
The CBC has recently published its guidance, Ruined Churches: Problem or Opportunity on caring for these vulnerable sites, which will be launched at the event. The aim of the day is to allow interested parties and potential partners to look at the issues and options, hear about some examples of successful projects, and explore the possibilities for next steps in terms of practical assistance, joint working and further advice.
Further details are available here. The provisional programme includes speakers from English Heritage, SPAB, Heritage Trust Lincolnshire, God’s Acre and the CBC.
The event is sponsored by the Society for Church Archaeology.
There is no charge for the event but places are limited and booking is essential. Please email us or phone us on 01904 671 417 to book a place.
The CBA publishes several books relating to churches, including Recording a church; an Illustrated Glossary and Churches and Chapels; Investigating Places of Worship, which will be available for purchase at the event – for more information, please visit the CBA Publications pages.
