Participating in the Past: Other Participatory Experience

4.8 Other Participatory Experience
The list of participatory experiences cited by respondents is, as might be anticipated, extremely diverse, and it has to be said, encouraging. It is an area where local initiative comes through most strongly and where small efforts produce large community gains. It also an area where there are considerable funding opportunities, although the process of obtaining such funding can seem a daunting process. Successful projects frequently have good in-built links to their local Sites and Monuments Records (SMRs). For convenience these activities have rather arbitrarily been divided up below into sections.
- Participating in the Past: Field-Walking (and Metal Detecting)
- Participating in the Past: Other Field Survey
- Participating in the Past: Adopt-a-Monument
- Participating in the Past: Landscape History and Local Research
- Participating in the Past: Experimental Archaeology, Reconstruction and Re-enactment
- Participating in the Past: Participation in Planning and Conservation Issues
