Participating in the Past: Talk-and-Chalk Activities for Adults
4.1 Talk-and-Chalk Activities for Adults
Talks given within the confines of a building are the mainstay of a considerable numbers of groups. Active encouragement, and publicity inviting members of the general public who are not members to attend, is a bonus. Such talks are particularly attractive and relevant when they are reporting local work – eg by a commercial unit – and a new dimension is clearly introduced when hands-on materials is available of whatever character. In this area, museums have considerable opportunities as there is no doubt that the public at large welcome the privilege of this kind of direct contact with the past. Object identification sessions, whoever runs them, are also clearly very popular. Day-schools reviewing work in a locality are widespread and obviously appreciated.
