CBA Publishing
The CBA has been dedicated to publishing the best in British archaeology for more than 60 years. We continue to make archaeological research widely available in both online and paper formats. Are you interested in publishing with us?
For the publication of archaeological projects, visit our Research Report series. We also produce the popular Practical Handbooks series, and a range of other titles designed to educate and entertain broad audience. We publish the flagship magazines British Archaeology and Young Archaeologist, the ejournal Internet Archaeology, and the CBA Research Bulletin series.
A complete backlist of occasional papers resulting from CBA research projects and policy statements is also available. Many of our publications are now available in electronic form free-of-charge through the Archaeology Data Service (Research Reports, Occasional papers).
A round-up of activities going on across the CBA network is published three times a year in our Members’ Newsletter. We also have a range of other newsletters covering specific aspects of our work.
If you would like to publish with the CBA, please contact us.
Research support
As a facilitator of archaeological research, we also provide a range of services which guide you to the resources you need. Visit the British and Irish Archaeological Bibliography (biab online) for a comprehensive, online database of published references and abstracts, covering material from AD 1695 to the present day.
In 1991, the CBA published Signposts for archaeological publication: a guide to good practice in the presentation and printing of archaeological periodicals and monographs (3rd edition). We have made the journal abbreviations available for download as a PDF via the Notes for Authors page.
The CBA also convenes ArchLib: an electronic library of publications for archaeology, where you can search across many different journals and books from a range of publishers, and then purchase and download the content electronically. To join ArchLib as a publisher, contact us.
Hosting
As well as publishing and facilitating research, the CBA also hosts a number of online publications, such as the Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports (SAIR). If you are interested in discussing a hosting arrangement with the CBA, please contact us.
Strategy
For more information on the CBA’s publishing activities and plans for the future, our Publication Strategy for 2008–2013 will be available online shortly.
