Students’ Resources
Archaeology resources for students
If you are studying archaeology and looking for information and help then the CBA intends to help you…
…So as part of the new CBA website we are developing a new resource hub for students. Aimed at anyone studying archaeology at any level in both formal and informal education, the new section will provide information on archaeology, a portal to information around the web, information about events, contact details for your local archaeology groups, and links to sites where you can download images of archaeological artefacts, site etc. that can be used to help with homework.
These resources will all be downloadable free for educational use. The resource hub will also link to other online resources that you can use – providing you with a central portal to reach anything related to archaeology, heritage and the historic environment. We ask only that you tell others about the resource site and that you let us know about new interesting websites, activities, information etc that you find so that the resource site can grow and help make learning about the past interesting and exciting for everyone.
To develop such a resource will take us a little time and the new resource area is part of the second phase of our website development, however, as each section of the resource site is available we will put it online.
In the meantime, try visiting our publications section which contains many links to useful research resources or the archaeology online section for further useful contacts and resources. Also, the following provide links to some useful online games which might also tell you something about archaeology:
Middleton Mystery: a game written by students at Ashington Community High School in Northumberland –explore Belsay Hall and solve the mysteries within. Designed and based around Belsay Hall in Northumberland. You can download and play the first level –the other levels you can play at Belsay Hall or buy from the shop at the hall.
BBC: Hunt the Ancestor Can you complete your dig before the developers send the bulldosers in?
BBC: Battlefield Academy: Try to direct four different historic battles against the BBC’s AI to see if you could have made it as the commander of an army in the past.
BBC: Ancient Objects Game: More from the BBC’s great set of games. Match the objects to the right time in history.
Channel 4: Time Detectives: Teamchester: 1 site, 3 days, 5 experts and a bit of a mystery site –can you sort it out for them all –or will you just end up in the pub?
Battle Trenches: Just like battleships but your throwing shovelfulls of turf to try and fill in Time Team’s trenches before they fill in yours –very silly but fun!
If you have any suggestions for items on this part of the site then please contact us by email.
