Do you want to get involved with an established and reputable archaeological charity, demonstrating your commitment to the UK’s archaeology whilst reaching your target market and building brand awareness and reputation with them? The CBA is the ideal organisation to help you do this. The CBA has been in existence since 1944. During this time we have been involved in shaping major developments in UK archaeology.

Our Audience could be your target market

As part of our work we have developed a membership scheme as well as a number of outreach projects aimed at engaging people in archaeology. Audience overview:

  1. CBA members & subscribers:
    • M/F mix is roughly 50/50
    • Around 1/3 of our members sit in each of the age ranges under 50, 50–60 and 60+
    • 13% consider themselves to have a disability
    • At least 10% have a household income of £60,000+, but the average household income is around £36,000.
    • The most popular hobbies/interests include walking/hiking, film/cinema/theatre, gardening, Wildlife/Environment, and UK and Foreign travel
    • The favoured newspapers include: The Times, The Guardian, and The Telegraph.
    • We have a number of affiliate members who individually have a range of membership sizes – the combination of all of these is roughly an additional 35,000 individuals. Their profile can be seen as the same as CBA individual members.
  2. The Festival of British Archaeology has been in existence since 1990 (under a couple of different names) and now includes over 600 events annually across the UK, attended by over 260,00 people. The Festival appeals to people of all age ranges (a lot of events are free) and is particularly good for attracting families. Approximately 38% of our members attend Festival events.
  3. Young Archaeologists’ Club – has been active since 1972 and supports around 2,000 young people aged 8–16 year from a diverse background with an equally diverse set of interests.
