Donations to Remember a Loved One

Thornborough, North Yorkshire Making a donation to the Council for British Archaeology in memory of a loved one is a special way to remember them.

We can never do enough to show how much we care about someone, but by making a donation to the CBA you can provide a lasting tribute and help protect the archaeology they loved and cared about for future generations to enjoy.

Here are just a few examples of what can be achieved from donations in memory:

  • A donation of £100 will help us support a Local Branch of the Young Archaeologists’ Club, so that young people around the country can have safe and enjoyable experiences of archaeology that will encourage them to develop this interest in to their adult life.
  • A donation of £500 will help provide a start-up grant for a YAC Branch to support the volunteers who run it to buy equipment and develop fun and exciting activities for the Branch members.

Ways to Commemorate a Loved One

There are many ways to give in memory. For example, many people prefer to make a donation to a charity instead of buying flowers for a funeral. A donation to the CBA will help us continue to make archaeology matter now and in the future and will help create a lasting legacy for archaeology. If this is a step too far for you, why not ask for flowers from family members only and suggest donations to the CBA for all other funeral guests. The funeral director should be able to organise the collection for you and they can then send them on to us on your behalf once the collection is complete.

If you would prefer to create an ongoing tribute to your loved one, you could make a regular donation to the CBA in their name on an anniversary or birthday.

You could also use your Will to make your wishes clear and to request donations instead of flowers, please ask your solicitor about this. We do not have a book of remembrance or anywhere to install a lasting monument to your loved one, but we will have a page on our website on which you can see a tribute to them, every day. We will ask you to write a few words about your loved one and why you chose to give a memorial gift to the CBA. We will then use this to include them on the memorial page.
